    Zine in Progress

    Hello all!

For those not following me on “the socials” :P it has been a while since the last blog update, life has been odd, as you all know.. I hope you are all well!

I am currently working on a zine / short graphic novel on the subject of finding yourself through the hurt of life and letting go in the moment.
When it is finished, printed copies and downloadable pdf’s will be available. I will share regular updates on the process, and inform you all through this website when it is finished.

    Whirling Inks and Dirty Dishwater

It’s been a **long** while since I last wrote something on here, but I figured it seemed fitting with the creation of a lot of new pieces.
I’ve been returning to my roots of direct, visceral drawings in ink, and combining them with digital media and the more delicate technique I’ve been employing for the past couple of years.
For a long time I’ve tried to find ways to integrate the many different pathways I’ve explored in my work, and I am now finally seeing it all come together in a deliciously freaky mixture of soft colour and grinding friction.
Of course the moment of contentment is over all too soon, while the wish to go deeper and explore further remains. Very curious to see where all of this is going, and I hope that all who follow my work enjoy this process as much as I do.

PS I now offer art prints. If you want a copy of one of my works, just email me at info@syle.nl and we can discuss it!

For all my fellow D&D geeks: I was part of the team making this awesome Books & Libraries DM Guide!

    Hi all!
It’s been a little quiet here because I was part of a small team working on a Dungeon Master guide for Books and Libraries!
Joozey of RPG Papercrafts made all the content, and me, Joozey and Raafling did the illustrations. To see more of their work, visit https://rpgpapercrafts.com/ and http://raaflingdraws.tumblr.com .

“This inspirational guide offers a large amount of tools, tables and ideas for improvising books and libraries on the spot. For those players that always seek out the magic of knowledge in a library of a town that you did not prepare. Or those players that open the books on the desk you described in the spur of the moment. No need to force improvisation here any longer, this guide will be your help!

The guide contains 17 different types of books, new creatures, many custom spells, optional supplemental rules, library prompts and a large amount of Forgotten Realms lore hooks. As an inspirational guide, nothing is Forgotten Realms exclusive. You can cherry-pick anything you like for your own world.”

The guide can be purchased here and I can tell you it’s definitely worth it:

New Work: The Prism of Insight

A new work has been published today under my Third Eyeconography series, and down below. Though my work is ever evolving and changing, it seemed most fitting to place it there. It’s a portrait which is inspired by the Tarot, as many of my works are, but also by Renaissance and Pre Rafaelite paintings, and as you can see also by one of my muses.
It depicts the moment of insight and wisdom crystallizing inside ones mind, sinking in, and making one feel secure, strong, wise, but not proud. Open.
You might see the archetype of the magician, or the king. Someone who has achieved insight, wisdom and leadership, but not for glory or ego. For its own sake.

Most of my work is very intuïtive, and the different layers of meaning present themselves while I am working, and sometimes even long after finishing. You could say that my work is a manner of thinking out loud, or dreaming out loud.
Anyway, hope you all enjoy this new work. And I’d also like to point out that I can be commissioned to draw your portrait- not just your physical likeness, but parts of your inner world, the essence of a dream perhaps.

    Visions in a Crystal Ball

I’m currently working on this piece of a vision within a crystal ball. Is this woman gazing at you, or are you gazing at her? The vision takes place in the world of Faery, a realm between dream and waking, and questions are asked. The woman in the vision is confused, searching for answers.

Many of the concepts within my work come to mind whilst I am drawing. I have a source of inspiration, a vision, a story in mind- but it never ends there. During the process of drawing and painting, the story starts to grow, evolve and change. It may be that the woman in this piece has found her answers when it is done. Maybe not. Maybe the answers are there but remain unspoken.

Do you think art should provide answers?

    New Beginnings

    Hi all,

First of all, for those entirely new here, welcome to my online art portfolio.

Since I’m dialing back my usage of social media platforms for my work, I wanted to come up with an interesting alternative, and have decided to use my website not only as a basic portfolio, but also as a platform for progress updates and the publication of written articles regarding my artistic process and ideas on art, dreams and perception in general.

I hope you will find it enriching and worthwhile to read and watch what I share here, and that you will perhaps also share my website and works with others.
